Saint John Vacation Rentals Area Information

Saint John is an island located in the Caribbean Sea, which is part of Virgin Islands, US. The island lies about 4 miles east of Charlotte Amalie which is the capital of Virgin Islands. The island is a perfect honeymoon destination and has been voted one of the ten best destinations. The island was founded in the year 1718 and was represented by the Danish West India and Guinea Company. In 1917 the island was bought by the US government for an estimated value of USD 25 million from the Danish dynasty, this was part military strategy to control the German expansion during World War I.

The island is famous for its sugar plantations from the early 1400, the famous one being the Annaberg Sugar Plantations. In 1927 residents of St.John Island was granted US citizenship but the residents are not eligible to vote in Presidential elections.

St. John has it well preserved natural beauty and its white sand beaches. The tourists visiting the island can view the hill region which is along with the picturesque residential villa. As part of the National Park Service 60% of the island is under the Virgin Islands National Park, the programme was organized to preserve the natural beauty of the island and another reason for this is that the majority of t he land was held by a an individual named Laurence Rockefeller, once he decided to donate the land back to the government this was one of the conditions. As per the Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument the island’s sea and the costal lines and the coral reefs are under the protection of this programme.

The Island has many beaches but the famous among them is the Trunk Bay and beach, this beach is voted one of the Ten Best beaches in the world. The beach is located along the north shore of the Island. The beach is open to the public but does not have any hotels or resorts as it is under the national park land. The exception in the northern shore is the Caneel Bay beach which is not open to the public as it is part of the private estate. The island offers two camp grounds to its visitors at the Maho Bay Beach and Cinnamon Bay Beach. These beaches are famous for its snorkeling activities for its visitors.

The principal port of the island is Cruz Bay and is situated on the western coast of the island; St. John has many Museums, Art Galleries, Restaurants, Shopping Malls and other facilities for its visitors. The famous museum in St.John is “The Elaine Lone Sprauve Library and Museum” which is located in Cruz Bay; the museum has a large collection of photographs, news papers archives, paintings and other art works.

Visitors who enjoys excavation and exploring the history of the island can join the scientist team in Cinnamon Bay to excavate the remains the of the island and find interesting facts about the island. The island has one of the oldest churches in the Virgin Islands, the Emmaus Moravian Church. The church was built in 1750; the uniqueness of the church is that it’s in triangle shape.

The main tourist attraction in the Island is it beaches, the island has 10 beaches and has one beach dedicated for honeymoon couple. The island offers a wide range of restaurants for its visitors, the cuisine served here is from around the globe from the authentic Caribbean to Thai. The famous shopping area in the Island is at Mongoose Junction which is located in Cruz Bay.

Cyril E King airport is the only airport serving St. John The island also provide bus and car rental services for its residents.
