Pensacola is located in the western part of Florida and the county seat of Escambia. It is actually a sea port which is situated on the Penascola Bay. Pensacola is also called as the "The City of Five Flags". This is because 5 countries had flown their flags here in the past. These countries include Spain, France, Great Britain, the Confederate States of America and the United States.The place is also called as "World's Whitest Beaches" because of its white beaches, "Cradle of Naval Aviation" because the National Museum of Naval Aviation is located here, "Western Gate to the Sunshine State," "America's First Settlement, "Emerald Coast"," Redneck Riviera" or the " Red Snapper Capital of the World".Pensacola is famous for its Punk, Folk and Indie music. The place is known for its night clubs in the downtown area. Some of the popular ones are the Sluggo's, the End of the Line Cafe, the Handlebar, and the Gutter Lounge. Classical and jazz music are also famous here. The places which offer a venue for concerts are the Penascola Junior College and the University of West Florida. Musicians and teachers from all over ther world gather here. The recently built Saenger theatre, the Penascola Symphony Orchestra and the Seville Sqaure also offer excellent venues for concerts. The Spring Fest and the Grace Fest are celebrated here in Penascola. Both of them are big music events in downtown Penascola. Apart from these, world famous concerts are also held in the National Museum of Naval Aviation.
Pensacola is also famous for its art and folk subculture. The Gallery Night is a famous event which is held by the Arts Council of Northwest Florida. It is an event which is held every month and in which artists from all over the area participate. Some of the other concert venues include the Pensacola Civic Center and the Saenger Theater. The Pensacola Christian College is known for its fine arts. Some of the important programs which are held here are the operas, the Shakespeare plays and Gilbert and Sullivan songs.
Downtown Penascola is the main historic centre of the city. Brownsville is known for its streets which have single letter names. The college park is known for its middle class homes which were built in the year 1970. The Cordova Mall is the biggest commercial centre here. The East Hill is known for its beautiful bungslows and mansions. The East Penascola Heights is known for its beautiful apartments, towers and the excellent atmosphere. The west of Pace Boulevard is an industrial area where major industries are located. The Seville Sqaure is known for its beautiful churches and buildings which were built in the 18th century.
