Saint Petersburg Vacation Rentals Area Information
Situated at the base of the peninsula called Tampa Bay in Florida, Saint Petersburg is a small little town with a subdued atmosphere. As the city has water on three sides, St. Petersburg is extremely famous for its beautiful beaches.Tampa Bay Peninsula lies between Gulf of Mexico and Tampa bay. Also known as The Sunshine City, Saint Petersburg has become a favorite spot for tourists who come here in search of some peace and quiet and loads and loads of sunshine. This town is also popular as a favorite retirement spot.
You can enjoy sailing, fishing and other water sports in this quaint town in Florida. The town of St. Petersburg was established by John C. Williams who was originally from Detroit. He purchased some land here in 1876 and as the place got connected through railroad in 1888, the town of St. Petersburg began taking shape.
Reaching St. Petersburg is very easy as town has an international airport called Saint Petersburg-Clearwater International. The airport receives flights from all parts of North America including Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, and St. Louis. But the airlines serving this airport are limited. For a wider choice, you can land at the Tampa International Airport or Downtown St. Petersburg Albert Whitted Airport SPG. Amtrak trains and Greyhound buses are also more economical ways of reaching St. Petersburg.
This tiny little town doesn't have a long list of sightseeing opportunities but you can still enjoy your day roaming around in this beautiful place. If you ask any local about what they think is the most beautiful part of the city, then the answer will definitely be the Sunken Gardens. Take a walk on the paths through dense plants and trees. This garden really looks like an oasis in the middle of sunny and hot Florida.
Another famous park is the Fort DeSoto Park, but it is very different from the Sunken Gardens. This park is actually a stretch of beaches and forests on the southwest edge of Saint Petersburg. This park is named after the old Fort DeSoto. You can also enjoy camping and fishing in this park.
St. Petersburg also features a Holocaust Museum which is one of its kinds in Florida. The museum features pictures and other items related to the Holocaust in Germany. It was made by Edie and Walter Loebenberg in the year 1992.
If you happen to be in the town on first Friday of the month, then don't miss the Art Walk that is organized in Gulfport. Here local artists perform and sell their art. It is a great way to know the local community a little better. Just like in the rest of Florida, St. Petersburg also offers great beaches and it is needless to say that you must check them out. Florida survives on its beaches and you cannot miss them at any cost. In short, if you are looking for a place that offers everything you need in a calm and peaceful vacation, then St. Petersburg is an obvious choice for that.
