East Hampton Vacation Rentals Area Information
The Town of East Hampton is a located in southeastern Suffolk County, New York at the eastern end of the South Shore of Island. The town includes the village of East Hampton, as well as the four unincorporated hamlets of Montauk, Amagansett, Wainscott, and Springs.It boasts the largest privately owned island in the US and the largest fishing fleet in state of New York. With larger towns in both New York and Vermont close by, Hampton have the best of both worlds. This Town was formerly known as "Hampton Corners" and "Greenfield.”
East Hampton originally was agricultural but the residents soon found that Whales would drift in to the beaches very often; these can be carved up for food and oil. East Hampton’s first port was called the Northwest Harbor. East Hampton continues to have a large maritime presence with Montauk being New York State's largest fishing port.
The town is nick named as “The playground of rich” this is as the richest individuals in New York City have a private estate in East Hampton. East Hampton is truly a nice view to the eyes because of its beautiful natural scenery, the exquisite white beaches. East Hampton has 8 state parks and 2 County parks which offer an excellent place for recreation. The place also offers other recreational facilities such as basketball courts, tennis courts, nature parks, and picnic areas.East Hampton does not have any colleges but has three high schools.
East Hampton has witnessed Major natural disasters such as the Hurricane of 1938 and Hurricane Carol in 1954. The city is known for its top class hotels and restaurants. One of the largest buildings in the town is Promised Land fish meal factory at Napeague
The main tourist attraction is the fire work display by the East Hampton Fire Department held at the Main Beach. The vent is held the Saturday night closest to July 4. The firework display was in controversies because of the endangered Piping Plover which were nesting on the beach. Due to this the event was postponed to the Labor Day weekend Saturday. Town is famed for its commercial sports fishing.
A big draw in the summer is the Shark fishing tournaments in Montauk. Each Summer, the Artists and Writers Softball Game, a charity benefit, is held. Every October the Town hosts the Hamptons International Film Festival, a rather large production with independent films shown in several local theatres.
UHF Channel 50 is the largest TV station East Hampton, it broadcast from East Hampton Airport industrial park in Wainscott.
The town is well connected by road and underground transportation.
