Lake Placid Vacation Rentals Area Information
Lake Placid is one of the great playgrounds of North America year-round fun and excitement. Located in the northeastern portion of the Adirondack wilderness of New York State, the rugged mountain scenery, heavy winter snows, and a pleasant summer climate combine to make the Lake Placid region a popular tourist year-round resort. Lake Placid along with Lake Saranac and Lake Tupper comprise what is known as Tri-Lakes region.Lake Placid was founded in the early 1800 to develop Iron Mining. As leisure time increased the rich and famous discovered Lake Placid Club formerly it was known as Placid Park Club which was founded by Melvil Dewey, inventor of the Dewey Decimal System.
Lake Placid is famous as it was the two-time site of Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980. The village is remembered is especially remembered for the USA – USSR hockey game which was nick named, “The Miracle on Ice”. It is one of the three places to have hosted the Winter Olympic Games twice.
Lake Placid is truly is blessing for the eyes because of its beautiful natural scenery, rugged mountain scenery and the greenery. Lake Placid is well known among the sports enthusiasts for its skiing, both Alpine and cross-country. Lake Placid offers skiing, hiking, mountain biking for tourists. This is the only one of the High Peaks that can be reached by road.
Lake Placid has 5 Museums Adirondack Museum, Essex County Historical Society Adirondack Center Museum, Lake Placid - North Elba Historical Society Museum and Penfield Homestead Museum. Lake Placid offers the visitors a cultural extravaganza, the best being the Lake Placid Sinfonietta. The Sinfonietta, an 18-member orchestra of professional musicians, presents a six-week season of concerts during July and August. The others being the Pendragon Theatre, The Writer’s Voice and the Ticonderoga Festival Guild.
The main tourist attraction Adirondack Mountains, tourists who successfully climb forty six peaks in the mountain range will be eligible to join the Adirondack Forty-Sixers. Lake Placid built its first golf course in 1898 one of the first in United States. Lake Placid is near the West Branch of the Ausable River, as stretch which is famous for Fly Fishing.
In Lake Placid, public education is monitored by the Lake Placid Central School District and is home to five private schools, to name them Mountain Lake Academy, National Sports Academy, North Country School, Northwood School and St. Agnes School.
Lake Placid also has an excellent communications services offered by Verizon and AT&T. The relatively closest airport is the Adirondack Regional Airport which is 26 Km from the village, Lake Placid Airport does not offer any scheduled flights.
Lake placid is also connected by the Amtrak and Adirondack Trailways but is not located in any Interstate highway.
